Hands on with the Craft-A-Brew Beer Kit

Brewed and Reviewed by Sadie, Kaboodle Buyer

Let me just start by saying I have never made beer before.  It seemed so daunting to have to go to a specialty store and invest in a lot of equipment, try to figure out what ingredients to buy and somehow figure out how to actually brew the stuff.  So when my co-worker asked me to try out the Craft-A-Brew kit I was really skeptical that the beer making process could be made simpler.

I bought the Craft-A-Brew White House Honey Ale kit and took it home to try.  You open the kit and it has almost everything you need:

  • 1-Gallon Glass Carboy
  • Funnel
  • Racking Cane
  • Rubber Stopper
  • Transfer tubing
  • Tubing clamp
  • Airlock
  • Thermometer
  • Guide to Craft Brewing
  • White House Honey Ale recipe kit
  • Sanitizer

You do need to have some items not included in the kit, like a large stock pot, spoon, strainer and bottles. The recipe book was so easy to read and follow it made the daunting process of getting started incredibly organized.  I think that was the thing that I was struck by the most, how detailed the recipe was and how simple it was to follow.

The process takes 4 weeks total but the actual hands on time was very short and honestly fun!  I turned my tiny kitchen into a brewery and it wasn’t difficult at all.

When I finally got to drink the beer I was blown away with how well it turned out!  Still I wanted some opinions so I brought it into work, needless to say everyone was really impressed!   It was really well balanced and had great flavor, they all want to buy one and make beer themselves.

The best part is you can buy replacement beer recipe kits in a variety of beer types. This kit can even work for when you get so good you want to make your own beer without a kit.  I don’t think I will ever get to that point, as the kits are so so easy to use and make truly excellent beer.

I highly recommend picking one of these kits up as a gift for anyone that enjoys beer.  It will make a great present and you might just want one for yourself!

Cheers! Sadie
